Pelican Bay State Prison staff were recently honored during the 2025 Law Enforcement Administrators of Del Norte (LEADN) Awards ceremony.

This event, attended by Warden Stephen Smith and staff, served as a platform to recognize the prison’s outstanding contributions. Honorees included the crisis response team (CRT), firehouse, and recruitment’s retired Sgt. Joao Silva.

The LEADN Committee, comprising the heads of law enforcement agencies and the District Attorney’s Office in Del Norte County, meets monthly to foster collaboration and enhance community safety.

The awards ceremony recognizes dedicated personnel from various agencies. The Pelican Bay Honor Guard joined the Crescent City Police Department Honor Guard Explorers to provide a ceremonious display underscoring the event’s significance.

Local law enforcement honored CRT for their exemplary service and mutual aid response.

Additionally, the prison firehouse was acknowledged for its commitment to community partnerships and assistance during mutual aid calls.

Retired Sgt. Silva was commended for his leadership in recruitment efforts. According to organizers, he exemplifies the department’s values through his approachable demeanor and professionalism.

During the ceremony, Warden Smith said he was proud of the achievements of these teams. Their efforts are a testament to their vital impact on the institution as well as the broader community.
