Mary Parton, a retired correctional officer, passed away April 4, 2025. She worked for the department for 14 years.

She began her career with the department in March 1993 as a cadet. After graduating the Basic Correctional Officer Academy, she reported to Noth Kern State Prison. In October 1997, she transferred to headquarters. Then, in September 2005, she transferred to California Institution for Women. She retired in May 2007.
“Mary was highly respected by her peers and a well-loved member of the North Kern State Prison family. At this time of mourning, please keep the Parton family in your thoughts and prayers,” according to the institution.
Funeral services will be held May 2 at Salser & Dillard, 127 E. Caldwell Ave., Visalia. Public viewing will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. with chapel services following from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The graveside service will be at noon at Visalia Public Cemetery, 1300 W. Goshen Ave., Visalia. A reception will be held immediately following at Portuguese Hall, 820 E. Main St., Visalia.
