Martha Bonham, a retired correctional officer, passed away May 11, 2025. She worked for the department for 22 years.

She began her career as a cadet at the Basic Correctional Officer Academy in November 1992. After graduating, she reported to California State Prison, Los Angeles County. Then, in June 1999, she transferred to High Desert State Prison in Susanville, where she remained until retiring in February 2014.
“Martha was known as being a hard worker, dedicated to her job and always having candy available for staff. High Desert State Prison would like to extend our sincere condolences to Martha’s family. As we reflect on memories of Martha, we remember her kindness and always being positive. Those who have been fortunate enough to have worked with Martha know what a wonderful partner she was,” according to the institution.
