Richard Penley, a retired correctional officer, passed away May 17, 2025, according to family.
He began his career with the department in February 1996 as a cadet at the Basic Correctional Officer Academy. After graduating, he was appointed to Chuckawalla Valley State Prison as a correctional officer in April 1996.
He remained at Chuckawalla Valley State Prison until his retirement in December 2013.
“Our deepest condolences are extended to Richard’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time,” according to a statement issued by Ironwood State Prison in Blythe.
