The US Tennis Association joined volunteers from the San Quentin Tennis Club to host a May 16 clinic at California State Prison, Solano.
Described as a transformative tennis clinic, the volunteers taught the fundamentals to incarcerated individuals at Solano.
Beyond mastering skills on the court, the clinic provided life lessons in teamwork, communication, personal growth, and tools for rehabilitation.
More than a sport, the clinic created a bridge between the incarcerated and outside community. The clinic offered a glimpse of hope showing how change is possible through empathy and shared experience.
For many incarcerated persons this day of tennis was a turning point. Sometimes, all it takes is a green ball and a racquet to begin rewriting a story.
