He began his career with the department in April 1988 as a correctional officer at Sierra Conservation Center in Jamestown.

Rodgers remained at the institution his entire career, retiring in March 2013.

He then returned to the institution in January 2014 as a retired annuitant industrial supervisor with the California Prison Industry Authority (CALPIA). He officially retired for the second time in June 2017, having served Sierra Conservation Center for more than 29 years.

Prior to his employment with CDCR, he served in the Army National Guard. Rodgers was active in the community, serving two terms as captain of the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Posse in 2006 and 2024. He had been an active member of the posse since 1999 until his passing.

According to his family, he loved horses as well as working on his home and his truck. He also enjoyed camping in the high country, boating, and traveling.

Rodgers was mechanically inclined and could fix and build just about anything.

He is survived by his wife, son, daughter-in-law, granddaughter, daughter, son-in-law, brother-in-law, nephew and niece. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

“We extend our most sincere condolences to the Rodgers family, loved ones and friends. At this profound time of mourning, the Rodgers family has asked for privacy. Please keep the Rodgers family in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time,” according to Sierra Conservation Center.

A celebration of life has already been held.
