Xavier Aponte, a retired correctional lieutenant, passed away Sept. 3, 2025. Services will be held Sept. 22.

Aponte began his CDCR career with California Rehabilitation Center at Norco in September 1986 as a correctional officer.
In December 1994, he promoted to correctional sergeant and five years later, promoted again to lieutenant. He held various positions including chief investigator in the investigative services unit. He retired in 2015 after devoting 29 years to the department.
“Xavier was well loved and respected by his colleagues. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Aponte family, loved ones, and friends during this time of mourning,” according to the institution.
There will be a visitation/viewing for Aponte at 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 22, at Colton First Assembly Church, 450 W. Citrus St. in Colton. Graveside services will follow at Mt. View Cemetery, 570 E. Highland Ave., in San Bernardino.
