David Fischer, a retired associate warden, passed away Sept. 28, 2025. He worked for CDCR for 26 years, retiring in 2020.

He began his career as a cadet at the Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Center in February 1994. After graduating the Basic Correctional Officer Academy in April 1994, he reported to California Correctional Institution at Tehachapi. In November 1995, Fisher transferred to California State Prison-Corcoran. He then promoted to sergeant in July 1998.
Three years later, he promoted to correctional lieutenant at Pleasant Valley State Prison.
He was then promoted to correctional captain at Avenal State Prison in March 2006.
Then, in April 2011, Fischer returned to Pleasant Valley State Prison as an associate warden. He remained at the institution until retiring in April 2020.
“David Fischer was a treasured employee and friend to many at Pleasant Valley State Prison and will be greatly missed by his friends and co-workers,” according to a statement issued by the institution. “Throughout his long career he made a huge impact on the lives of all those who were in contact with him. We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to Mr. Fischer’s family, loved ones, and friends during this difficult time.”
