Catching Contraband: Drugs, weapons found in September

Staff at three CDCR institutions found drugs, tattoo equipment, phones and weapons during searches of cells and common areas in September.

Institutions reporting contraband finds include CSP-Solano in Vacaville, Pelican Bay State Prison in Crescent City and San Quentin Rehabilitation Center.

California State Prison-Solano, Vacaville

In September, custody staff at California State Prison-Solano discovered:

  • Nine cell phones
  • Five manufactured weapons
  • Two hiding areas, or wall safes, found above the doors
  • Cell phone accessories such as charging cables and SIM cards
  • One syringe
  • Two metal sheets, 13 screws
  • One metal cane discovered in a common area
  • One modified pen
  • A metal latch
  • One hollow piece of metal stock
  • Multiple lids from metal cans
  • Part of a hacksaw blade
  • One controlled substance

Pelican Bay State Prison, Crescent City

Last month, custody staff at Pelican Bay discovered:

  • Five manufactured weapons in a common area
  • Two nine-inch sheets of aluminum, diamond-plate style
  • Three manufactured weapons found in cell searches
  • Hype kit and a piece of paper testing presumptive positive for heroin

San Quentin Rehabilitation Center

Custody staff at San Quentin found numerous contraband items in September including:

  • Three pieces of paper infused with spice
  • One piece of paper infused with THC wax
  • Eight photographs infused with methamphetamine
  • SD cards
  • Scissors and two pairs of needle nose pliers
  • cell phones
  • smart watch with internet connectivity
  • battery
  • manufacture coil
  • drug paraphernalia
  • tattoo kit consisting of a manufactured needle and ink in an eye dropper
