The Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison at Corcoran (SATF) is mourning the passing of staff psychiatrist John Church. He passed away Oct. 23, 2025.

Church began his career with the department at Pelican Bay State Prison in Crescent City in 1996. He left state service the following year but returned to the department in 2019 at SATF. He remained at the institution until his passing.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to Church’s family and friends during this difficult time,” according to SATF.
