Fred Harbott, retired television communications director

Fred Harbott, a retired television communications center director for CDCR’s Office of Public and Employee Communications, passed away Oct. 19, 2025.

Harbott started his state career with the Employment Development Department in February 1990 as a motion picture specialist.

In October 2001, he promoted to director (specialist), Television Communication Center with EDD.

Then, in November 2005, he transferred to CDCR Headquarters as a director (specialist), Television Communications Center, part of the Office of Public and Employee Communications.

He held the position until his retirement at the end of December 2014.

Even after retiring, Harbott could be found volunteering for large events such as the Medal of Valor, where he helped with TV camera work.
