The Wasco State Prison – Reception Center (WSP-RC) fire department held simulated staff fire training Jan. 12. This is part of fire staff’s ongoing commitment to stay ready for unforeseen fire emergencies.
Although these types of emergencies are not common in an institutional facility, Fire Chief A. Bruno wants to be prepared just in case. The goal is to help staff retain and increase their fire safety response and knowledge.

The fire training took place in and out of a WSP-RC In-Service Training classroom. The scenario included a structure fire response, rescue with CPR, and fire suppression operations with a limited fire suppression response.
Training was designed to evaluate performance levels, response timing, coordination, and overall effectiveness in situations that could realistically occur within an institution setting or mutual aid response areas. According to the chief, the exercise was successful and met its training objectives.
“Great job to all the staff who participated in the training exercise and thank you for the excellent work you do,” said training organizers.
