Angel Leigh Freeman, a retired correctional officer, passed away March 5, 2026. She served as a correctional officer for the department for 19 years.

After many years dedicated to her parent’s company, she switched careers, attending the Basic Correctional Officer Academy in 2000. After graduating, she reported to Deuel Vocational Institution in Tracy. She retired in 2019.
After retiring, she relocated to Sulphur Springs, Texas, where her family soon joined her.
According to her family, she enjoyed retirement.
“Her new life was everything she dreamed of with grandkids to spoil, 10 acres to roam, six dogs, a pig, and the peace of no neighbors,” the family said.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Stuart Freeman, and two daughters, Christina Mertens and Courtney Lewis of Celeste, as well as six grandchildren.
She is also survived by her parents, a sister and brother along with several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life luncheon will be held from 1-4 p.m., Saturday, March 28, at The Rustic O in Sulphur Springs, Texas.
