Brian McCauley, a retired correctional officer, passed away April 5, 2026.

McCauley began his career at with the department in April 1997. After graduating the Basic Correctional Officer Academy, he reported to San Quentin in May.
He then transferred to California State Prison, Sacramento, in August 2000.
After a successful correctional career, McCauley retired in December 2018.
“Officer McCauley will be remembered not only for his service, but for the personality he brought with him every day. Originally from Wisconsin, he carried his roots proudly, especially when it came to his love for the Green Bay Packers. Whether it was football season or just another day at work, his sense of humor and larger-than-life personality made him someone people naturally gravitated toward,” according to the institution. “He was known for being incredibly funny, a true character who could lighten any room and bring people together. His presence will be deeply missed by those who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him. Our sincere condolences are extended to the McCauley family, as well as our CDCR family, during this difficult time.”
