Jose Razo, a retired correctional officer, passed away April 14, 2026. He worked for the department for 18 years.

Razo began his career with the department in March 2000. He spent his entire correctional officer career at California Correctional Institution at Tehachapi, retiring in July 2018.
“Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family and loved ones. Jose will be missed by his fellow co-workers and all who knew him,” the institution said.
According to his family, he will be remembered for “his charismatic storytelling, his interest in old school cars, and most of all the big heart and enormous generosity he had for his amazing children, and his cherished family and friends.”
He is survived by his two teenage children and their mother, his parents, a sister and two brothers.
Rosary will be held from 6-8 p.m., May 13, at Monarch Memorial, 2801 F St. in Bakersfield. Services will be at 10 a.m., May 14, at San Clemente Mission, 1305 Water St., Bakersfield. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery NE, 3700 River Blvd., Bakersfield.
