He began his career with the department at Avenal State Prison in September 2015.

Later, he transferred to Kern Valley State Prison in May 2018. He remained at Kern Valley until he retired in September 2025 after a decade with CDCR.

“Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family and loved ones. Joe will be missed by his fellow co-workers and all who knew him,” according to the institution.

Viewing will begin at 2 p.m. April 28 at Webb Sanders Funeral Home, 163 S. Mirage Ave. followed by the rosary at 6 p.m.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., April 29, at Lindsay-Strathmore Cemetery, 639 S. Foothill Ave., Lindsay.
