Wasco State Prison Reception Center (WSP-RC) staff were joined by family members and close friends to remember the lives of two employees who recently passed away.

The ceremony honored and celebrated the lives of Information Technology Specialist II J.C. Garcia Espinoza and Licensed Clinical Social Worker S. Varghese.

The gathering reflected the profound impact both individuals made within the institution and the lasting influence of their service.

Family and friends traveled for several hours to be present, standing with staff in shared remembrance and mutual support. Their presence underscored the deep respect, admiration and love felt for Varghese and Garcia Espinoza—two individuals whose dedication and compassion touched countless lives.

During the memorial, WSP-RC staff expressed heartfelt gratitude to the families, acknowledging the privilege of working alongside such exceptional professionals.

Staff also shared stories of how Varghese and Garcia Espinoza consistently uplifted their colleagues through their kindness, work ethic and unwavering professionalism.

Their influence extended far beyond their daily responsibilities, shaping workplace morale, strengthening team unit and offering support to those around them.

One staff member expressed the sentiment felt across the institution: “Thank you for letting us borrow them during the workday and be a part of their work lives.”

The statement captured how deeply their presence enriched the WSP-RC community. Their legacies will continue to guide and inspire staff for years to come, according to organizers.

To conclude the memorial, members of the Mental Health Department arranged to plant a tree in honor of Varghese. The tree symbolizes the continued growth, mentorship and positive change he fostered throughout his career.
