Randell ‘Randy’ Taylor, retired correctional sergeant

Randell James “Randy” Taylor, a retired correctional sergeant from the Correctional Training Facility (CTF) at Soledad, passed away Aug. 31, 2026. Taylor was 68.

He began his career with the department at CTF in October 1979 as a correctional officer. He separated from state service in January 1981 but returned as a cadet in May 2006.

After graduating the Basic Correctional Officer Academy in August 2006, he returned to CTF. A decade later, he promoted to correctional sergeant.

He went on to serve the CTF community until retiring in December 2019.

“During his years at CTF, Sgt. Taylor was a respected colleague who will be remembered for his calm demeanor and positive attitude. Even during times of crisis and challenging situations, he had a steady presence and remained composed. These qualities were appreciated by those who had the opportunity to work alongside him. A longtime resident of Seaside, he enjoyed golfing, dining out and spending time with his family and friends. We extend our deepest condolences to Sgt. Taylor’s family, friends and former colleagues,” CTF wrote. “We thank Sgt. Taylor for his many years of dedicated service to CTF and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Rest in peace, Randell Taylor. Your service and contributions to CTF will not be forgotten.”
