Salinas Valley State Prison (SVSP) is investigating an attack on a correctional officer on Oct. 2.
At 1:13 p.m., staff were escorting an incarcerated person out of Receiving and Releasing (R&R) when he attacked an officer. Responding staff utilized physical force to quell the attack.
No improvised weapons were recovered at the scene.
The officer was transported to an outside medical facility for treatment for a higher level of care and later released. One other officer sustained minor injuries while responding to the attack and was treated and released.
The incarcerated person was placed in restricted housing pending an investigation by SVSP’s Investigative Services Unit. The officer is expected to make a full recovery.
