The California Medical Facility (CMF) in Vacaville is investigating an attack on four correctional officers.
At approximately 11 a.m., Oct. 12, an incarcerated person approached a correctional officer from behind, striking the officer twice in the back. Responding staff utilized chemical agents to quell the attack, and the incarcerated person was placed in restraints. An improvised weapon was recovered at the scene.
The incarcerated person was escorted to the decontamination area, where they battered another correctional officer. Staff utilized physical force to cease the attack.
The incarcerated person was then escorted to the triage treatment area and, while waiting to be medically evaluated, the incarcerated person headbutted another correctional officer. Staff once again utilized necessary physical force to gain compliance. One officer sustained injuries while utilizing force.
Two officers were transported to an outside medical facility for treatment and were later released. The other two staff members sustained minor injuries and elected to stay on duty.
All staff members are expected to make a full recovery.
