The Office of Employee Wellness (OEW) provides a safe, accessible, and connective space for proactive wellness support, education, and resources for all California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) and California Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS) employees and their families. OEW is a multi-disciplinary team consisting of trauma-informed mental health clinicians, and Peer Support Trained custody and administrative staff. OEW develops, implements, and oversees the department-wide employee wellness programs and initiatives. We recognize the inherent correctional stressors and work towards creating paths and resources to wellness.

OEW Mental Health Supportive Assistance

Recognizing the unique needs of correctional employees, OEW has mental health clinicians on staff with correctional expertise who provide support for CDCR and CCHCS staff and their eligible family members upon request.

Services include short-term, solution-focused counseling (6-10 sessions), support following work-related incidents, psychological first aid, consultation, and referral services. While therapy can feel intimidating, OEW clinicians are here to make it less scary and support you on your wellness journey.

All services are free, voluntary, and confidential.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a confidential wellness program, provided by CalHR, designed to assist employees and their eligible dependents with obtaining referral services a short-term counseling to manage everyday concerns and to achieve a better work-life balance.

-Exclusive discounts Legal consultations
-Lifestyle coaching
-Educational Materials and Wellness guides,
such as the Coping with Tragic Events Guide.
HOW TO ACCESS SERVICES:
1. Visit www.EAP.calhr.ca.gov and select a service.
2. The website will prompt you to enter your organization code.
3. Once centered, you will gain access to the selected service.

Peer Support Program

CDCR’s Peer Support Program (PSP) originated in 1985 for staff, by staff. Today the PSP is comprised of volunteer custody and non-custody employees who have the desire and passion to help their fellow staff in a time of need. PSP members have received extensive training, in empathy, psychological first aid, critical incident response, active listening and best practices for peer-to-peer support programs. To request peer support services, contact your local PSP team, visit the PSP module in the CDCR Wellness app, or the Statewide PSP manager at CDCRPeerSupport@cdcr.ca.gov.

California Chaplain Corps logo

California Chaplain Corps

The California Chaplain Corps (CCC) is a confidential law-enforcement sensitive support service that provides 24-hour, 365 days a year crisis incident stress management and post-trauma stress services for all CDCR and CCHCS employees and their families. There are no fees or co-pays associated with this program and all communication between chaplains, employees and/or dependents are 100% confidential.

CDCR Wellness App

The CDCR Wellness app provides 24/7 confidential instant access to correctional wellness tools and resources for all CDCR and CCHCS staff, eligible dependents, and retirees. The Wellness app can be downloaded on a personal or state-issued cell phone. The Wellness app does not collect any personal information or the user’s in-app activity, which allows users complete anonymity while using the app.
