California State Prison-Solano’s Occupational Mentor Certification Program (OMCP) trainees, interns and certified mentors recently held a Domestic Violence Awareness event.
This Restorative Justice project allowed OMCP participants to recognize National Dometic Violence Awareness Month.

The OMCP participants were challenged with spreading awareness amongst the population at CSP-Solano. OMCP participants learned about resources offered by SafeQuest of Solano. For victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, the organization provides prevention education, advocacy and intervention services. With an emphasis on client-centered and trauma-informed care, they work with diverse partners to promote individual, family and community transformation.

The OMCP participants, along with the Peer Support Specialist participants, held interactive discussions on how they may have been impacted by domestic violence. They learned about the different types and warning signs of domestic violence as well as and resources available to assist them as certified counselors to support and help those in need. They honored the survivors through poems, songs and speeches.
