The annual Correctional Officer of the Year award is given to the person or persons who serve as positive role models and foster an environment that supports a balance between professional development, professional job performance, and personal wellness. The recipient or recipients conduct themselves professionally through fair, honest, and ethical behavior.
CO of the Year Recipient:
Francisco Borboa, Correctional Officer, Chuckawalla Valley State Prison
Officer Borboa began his CDCR career in October 1998 at the Basic Correctional Officer Academy in Galt. After graduating, he joined the ranks of Chuckawalla Valley State Prison (CVSP). Since then, he’s been assigned to various positions, such as:
- Housing Unit officer
- Program Services officer
- Court Liaison officer
- and his current position of Tool Control officer.
As Tool Control officer, Officer Borboa is responsible for tool control procedures for all departments within CVSP. Based on his extensive knowledge of the Department Operations Manual, he ensures CVSP complies with the DOM and any local operating procedures.
During a recent security audit, Officer Borboa not only received many words of appreciation from auditors and staff from all classification levels due to his keen and relentless attention to details, but also shined in the highest standards of state audits.
His high standards help make CVSP “the Jewel of the Desert” – a truly admirable and safe work place.
