Ignacio Alaniz II, retired sergeant, passes away

Sierra Conservation Center reported the passing of retired Correctional Sergeant Ignacio Alaniz II. He passed away Jan. 1, 2021.

Alaniz began his career in July 1977 as a correctional officer at California Institution for Men.

In November 1985, he promoted to sergeant. In June 1990, he transferred to Julius Klein Conservation Camp where he remained until his retirement in 2007. He briefly returned to state service as a retired annuitant in 2008.

Following in his father’s footsteps, his son, Ignacio, also works for the fire camps. In 2007, just before his father retired, the two were able to work together.

“It was the first time I was able to be at a fire assignment with my Dad. I began my camp career in 2006,” he said.
