Michael Burch, retired lieutenant, passes away

The Correctional Training Facility reported the passing of Michael Burch, a retired correctional lieutenant, on May 30, 2023.

He began his career with the department as a cadet in September 1985. After graduating the Basic Correctional Officer Academy the following month, Burch reported to California Correctional Institution. In April 1987, he transferred to California Men’s Colony.

Then, in January 1997, he promoted to correctional sergeant. Laterally transferring to Correctional Training Facility (CTF) in July 1999, he promoted two years later to correctional lieutenant. He remained at CTF until retiring in April 2007.

“Michael was an invaluable member of CTF and will always be in our hearts. He was very well respected amongst his peers, subordinates, supervisors and managers. Michael will be greatly missed by all who knew and worked with him. Our sincerest condolences are extended to Michael’s family, friends, and loved ones,” according to a statement issued by the institution.
