Gilbert Moore, retired sergeant, passes away

Gilbert “Gene” Moore, a retired correctional sergeant, passed away July 1, 2023.

Moore started his career at San Quentin State Prison in October 1956 as a correctional officer. He transferred to the conservation camp program in 1962. Moore returned to San Quentin as a correctional counselor in 1964, then went on to become a parole agent. According to his family, he worked for the department for 31 years, retiring as a Unit Supervisor for Parole Operations.

“He will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him,” according to a statement issued by San Quentin. “Our sincerest condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.”

A Celebration of Life for Gilbert “Gene” Moore will be held Friday, July 28, at 2:30 pm at Daniels Chapel of the Roses, 1225 Sonoma Ave., in Santa Rosa.
