Throughout the year, CDCR/CCHCS staff and the incarcerated population raise funds to help the community, while also volunteering their time.
ASP donates over $3k to VFW Post 7168

Avenal State Prison (ASP) proudly donated $3,138 to honor military veterans. The donation was presented to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7168.
Touched by the generosity, the veterans expressed profound gratitude.
“Their gratitude underscores the unity that defines our great nation. ASP salutes the unwavering sacrifices of our brave men and women, embodying the essence of patriotism and the enduring spirit that unites us all,” according to a statement issued by ASP.
CIW raises over $3k for Special Olympics


Staff volunteers from California Institution for Women (CIW) held a Tip-a-Cop event at BJ’s Restaurant Brewhouse, raising over $3,000.
Tip-a-Cop events partner with restaurants, offering law enforcement volunteers to act as servers, raising money for Special Olympics.
CIW staff, alongside seven Special Olympics of Southern California athletes from the Chino Hills area, assisted the restaurant crew. The community turned out in force, supporting the effort.

SAC raises over $16k for charities in 2023

The incarcerated population at California State Prison, Sacramento, (SAC) has raised over $16,000 from food sales this year.
The money raised went to several nonprofit organizations including:
- Twin Lakes Food Bank
- Angel Tree
- Boys & Girls Club
- Special Olympics
- Center for Restorative Justice Works
CMF raises money for Boys and Girls Club

California Medical Facility (CMF) attended the annual Wake-Up Your Heart Breakfast fundraising event at Travis Credit Union in Vacaville.
CMF donated $1,000 to the Vacaville Neighborhood Boys and Girls Club.
The donation earned CMF staff 2023 Honorary Blue Door Society Members.

PBSP garden group donates to nutrition programs

The Pelican Bay State Prison (PBSP) garden group donated several items to two nutrition programs. Recipients were the College of the Redwoods Community Food Forest and United Indian Health Services Elder Nutrition in Smith River. The donation included 200 heads of garlic, eight apple trees, and a crafted painted planter box.
