John Nagy, sergeant, passes away

John Nagy, a correctional sergeant at Sierra Conservation Center, unexpectedly passed away March 17, 2024, surrounded by family and friends.

He began his state career with CDCR in July 2007 as a cadet at the Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Center in Galt.

After graduating the Basic Correctional Officer Academy in October, he reported to Sierra Conservation Center. In July 2016, he promoted to correctional sergeant.

Nagy worked in various posts while assigned to Sierra Conservation Center as a correctional officer and sergeant. He served as a member of Crisis Response Team (CRT) for 10 years.

His final post assignment was in the Armory as the Armory Sergeant.

“John was loved by many and through his dedication to service and commitment to the department, especially Sierra Conservation Center, he inspired many of the staff. His contributions to the In-Service-Training department are beyond compare. John will be dearly missed by all who knew him,” according to a statement issued by the institution.

Nagy is survived by two sons, his siblings, and his father.

“We extend our most sincere condolences to the Nagy family, loved ones and friends. At this profound time of mourning, the Nagy family has asked for privacy. Please keep the Nagy Family in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time,” according to the statement.
