March CDCR visiting highlights shamrocks, bunnies

Staff and volunteers took extra steps to make visiting special in March at CDCR facilities across the state. From St. Patrick’s Day to Easter celebrations, visiting rooms were decorated and children made to feel special through family friendly activities.

Women’s History Month: A look into CDCR efforts to increase representation of women with the 30×30 initiative. Pt.2

Hear about the 30×30 pledge CDCR recently signed to increase women representation by the year 2030 and the efforts planned to meet the goal shared by Rosanna Rodriguez, Manager within Office of Peace Officer Selection over Recruitment. Special guest Lieutenant Priscilla Gonzalez will share her personal experience as a peace officer woman working within the Department including her struggles, successes and encouragement of future female officers.

HDSP attends Lassen County job fair

High Desert State Prison Recruiters attended a Lassen County job fair at the Lassen County fairgrounds. This event focused on several vendors within Lassen County presenting their areas for open job opportunity.  High Desert State Prison provided staff from different areas of the institution to include custody, non-custody, and plant operations.

CTF food sale for Soledad Little League

On March 30, Correctional Training Facility raised over $53,000 in a Glossophobics Anonymous food sale for Soledad Little League.

RJD, community organizations hosts LGBTQ Pre-Release Fair

Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility (RJD) hosted its first LGBTQ focused pre-release resource fair. All RJD residents were invited to attend the fair. A mix of community organizations that provide specific services to the LGBTQ community attended. The overall mission of the resource fair was to provide release resources for incarcerated residents to support pre and post release rehabilitation efforts.

Over 100 residents attended the event. Residents who participated expressed thanks for receiving the information about resources they could utilize when they parole.  The community members who volunteered their time were grateful to provide services to our marginalized population, as they understand the complex need of this population. 

WSP Alarm Response drill

On March 28, Wasco State Prison-Reception Center (WSP) collaborated with five other institutions to conduct a real-life mass casualty multi-agency drill. Alarm response instructors, role players, and equipment responded to a code 3 response with several injured incarcerated people needing medical emergency triage assistance.

WSP medical staff were involved in this very intense annual training held throughout Division of Adult Institutions. In attendance were EMT professionals from Hall Ambulance service and Kern County Fire Department, Station 31, Wasco Station.

AIDA program graduation at CTF

On March 28, Awareness into Domestic Abuse (AIDA) Program at Correctional Training Facility (CTF) hosted a graduation event for 45 participants. Participants completed a 12-week course to earn their certificates of completion.

AIDA is committed to ensuring individuals have the opportunity and are equipped to engage in non-abusive healthy relationships.

OMCP art show at Solano

On March 26, California State Prison, Solano’s, Division of Rehabilitative Programs hosted its first Occupational Mentor Certification Program (OMCP) Art Show. The theme was “Addiction to Recovery.”

Thirty-five OMCP participants submitted art to be viewed. All items were donated to the local charity Opportunity House in Vacaville. The display included:

  • poetry
  • paintings
  • drawings
  • jewelry boxes
  • and crocheted blankets and animals.

Guests from the Solano County District Attorney’s Office also attended. The celebration featured the presentation of two poems by OMCP trainees, a performance of Haka dances by the Pacific Islander Group of Solano, and music provided by the “Nite Klub” band from California State Prison, Solano.

Multiple agencies partner for public safety career fair at Sacramento City College

A career fair will be taking place at Sacramento City College on Thursday morning.

From 10 a.m. to 2. p.m., more than 30 public safety agencies from across the state will come together to encourage students who are looking for jobs in public safety.

KCRA 3 was joined by a CDCR representative to discuss the upcoming fair.

Danny Royster said CDCR alone needs over 2,000 correctional officers.
