Pelican Bay State Prison recently hosted its first International Women’s Day event celebration.
Held during Women’s History Month, the day serves as a reminder of the remarkable contributions and achievements of women throughout history. It is a day to acknowledge and pay tribute to the courage, resilience, and determination of women who have made significant strides in various fields and continue to break barriers.
According to organizers, this event was a resounding success thanks to the hard work and dedication of staff who coordinated and organized every detail. The occasion included guest speakers, food, gift bags, and engaging trivia regarding women’s history.

Guest speakers included Undersecretary Tammy Foss and Region I Healthcare Executive Rainbow Brockenborough.
“Their presence and inspiring speeches left a lasting impact on all in attendance,” said organizers. “Their insights, knowledge, and inspiring words added great value to the event and staff were truly grateful.”
Warden Stephen Smith remarked on the importance of International Women’s Day.
“This is a reflection on our shared commitment to equality, empowerment, and creating a supportive and inclusive environment. I have no doubt this event will continue to grow and inspire future generations,” said Warden Smith. “I look forward to next year’s International Women’s Day event at Pelican Bay and those to come.”
