Equine therapy benefits CCWF staff, residents

CCWF welcomed Rebel Farms Equine Therapy for a session with staff and a separate session for the population in mental health programs.

Rebel Farms recently provided equine therapy for Central California Women’s Facility (CCWF) staff and the incarcerated population.

On Feb. 27, Rebel Farms Equine Therapy staff brought three horses to a grassed area for CCWF staff to enjoy. Facility staff were able to meet the horses on the patio/grassed area of visiting.

Then, on Feb. 28-29, Rebel Farms returned and provided equine therapy to the incarcerated individuals in the mental health programs.

Staff and the population were appreciative of the calming effect and therapeutic way Rebel Farms offered equine therapy.

Beneficial for staff, incarcerated

Rachel B. Paez, founder and facilitator at Rebel Farms stated, said these events offer positive experiences for everyone involved.

“I want to start off by saying how grateful we are for the opportunity to show you how magical our prison ponies are,” she said. “Our team felt so welcomed and supported by everyone, which helps this program run as smoothly and effectively as possible. The program’s impact on the CCWF community was clear, and we are excited to grow together. As you know, we are working hard to expand The Herd Within Project and your support will help us tremendously in spreading our mission.”

Acting Warden Anissa De La Cruz said the program is beneficial.

“Equine therapy harnesses the healing power of horses to promote emotional growth, improve communication skills, and enhance overall well-being,” she said. “Through meaningful interactions with these majestic animals, individuals can find solace, build trust, and embark on a journey of self-discovery and healing.”
