CDCR population donates to Special Olympics

Across California, the incarcerated population is pitching in to help Special Olympics athletes through food sales.

Wasco’s Facility A food sales raise nearly $9k

Thanks to food sales, the Wasco State Prison-Reception Center population raised nearly $9,000 for Special Olympics.

The Wasco Facility A food sales allowed the population to raise $8,952 to be donated to the Kern County Special Olympics.

The Facility A population chose the non-profit organization, presenting them with a check in a special ceremony May 17.

During the ceremony in the Facility A visiting room, the Inmate Advisory Council heard how the money will benefit the local Kern County Special Olympic athletes. They also learned a little bit about the organization.

“A big thanks to the Facility A population and all the hard work put in by the Community Resource Manager’s (CRM) office for putting this together,” according to a statement issued by Wasco State Prison-Reception Center.

Guests at the check presentation ceremony included acting Warden P. Horn, Chief Deputy Warden I. Alomari, the Facility A advisory council representatives, CRM C. Saldana, and Facility A/M Captain J. Guerra.

She toured Pleasant Valley with Justin Nugent, Community Resource Manager; Christina Ackerman, Management Service Technician; and Gracie Arredondo, Office Technician.

Gibboney spoke with each facilities’ Inmate Advisory Councils to thank them for their efforts.

“It’s important for me to meet, greet, and thank the incarcerated individuals for their dedication and effort,” Gibboney said.
