RJD hosts Crime Victims’ Rights Week event

RJ Donovan Correctional Facility (RJD) recently hosted a National Crime Victims’ Rights Week awareness event for staff and the incarcerated population.

The event created a powerful space for reflection, healing, and awareness throughout the institution.

It also served as an opportunity to recognize how crime impacts individuals, families, and communities. The event fostered meaningful conversations surrounding accountability, healing, and restoration.

Richard J Donovan Correctional Facility (RJD) held a National Crime Victims' Rights Week event.
At RJD are ARC Director David Amaya, ARC CEO Rob Woronoff, CRM Crystal Lopez and acting Warden Mario Ramirez.

Staff and incarcerated participants alike described the event as impactful, comforting, and emotionally moving. Many expressed gratitude for the opportunity to hear directly from victims, advocates, and community leaders.

Guests at the event included board members of the Anti-Recidivism Coalition, representatives from the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, as well as Mothers with a Message. Each speaker brought a unique perspective, sharing personal stories, professional insight, and messages of hope.

According to attendees, those messages resonated deeply with everyone present.

Victims’ advocates and justice professionals reinforced the importance of empathy, responsibility, and understanding regarding the lasting effects of crime.

Mothers with a Message delivered especially powerful testimonies, sharing personal experiences of loss, resilience, and forgiveness. Their message reminded attendees that healing is possible, and that accountability and growth are essential parts of the restorative process.

Events such as these reflect Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility’s ongoing commitment to rehabilitation, victim awareness, and fostering positive change within the institution. By bringing together staff, incarcerated individuals, and community partners, the facility continues to support opportunities encouraging reflection, personal growth, and stronger community connections.
