Calipatria recruiters attend Imperial Valley Law Day

Calipatria State Prison recruiters set up a booth during Imperial Valley Law Day.

The Calipatria State Prison recruitment team attended the El Centro Superior Court annual Law Day event on May 2.

The event allows the Imperial Valley community to visit and learn about the court’s processes while also enjoying food from local vendors. Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies are able to display their information and recruitment booths.

The agencies are also allowed to showcase a static line of their agency’s vehicles and as well as an informational booth regarding their agency’s hiring requirements. The vehicle displays are set up along the El Centro’s Main Street, directly in front of the courthouse.

During the event, a portion of Main Street, directly in front of the courthouse, is completely closed off, allowing parents and their children to safely walk to every booth and vendor.

As part of the event, children received a stamp after attending each booth. At the end, they were allowed to enter a drawing to win prizes. During several visits to Calipatria’s recruitment booth, the recruiters were met with friendly smiles and warm gestures from the children.

Chief Deputy Warden Sam Venero attended this years’ event and assisted in answering questions for some of our community members.

“We are here remembering all law enforcement who gave the ultimate sacrifice for Imperial County. It is an Honor to participate in this dedication and to never forget those public servants,” Venero said.

Capt. Mark Barra also attended along with family members.

“It was great to see the different law enforcement agencies interact with the community,” he said. “There was also an excellent display of vendors and programs available to the Imperial County residents.”

This was Calipatria’s second year attending the event and hopes to keep this tradition going.

“It is always a great opportunity to do these types of events and to show our local community our presence and support for them,” said recruiter Ismael Luna.
