DAPO connects with community during National Night Out

The Division of Adult Parole Operations (DAPO) joined law enforcement agencies across California in celebrating National Night Out. From Northern to Southern California, DAPO staff volunteered their time Aug. 4 to engage with the community and share information about DAPO’s role in public safety and reentry. This event helps build meaningful relationships with residents, local organizations and fellow law enforcement professionals.

DAPO units and programs partnered with local law enforcement agencies and other CDCR divisions and institutions to participate in events throughout the state. Participating DAPO teams included the Woodland, Vallejo, San Francisco, San Bernardino, Eureka, Sacramento and Salinas parole units. Other DAPO teams included the Community Compliance Unit, Community Reentry Unit, and Electronic Monitoring Unit. DAPO also worked alongside CDCR’s Recruitment and Career Services Unit, Pelican Bay State Prison, and the Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Center.

Each location offered a unique experience for community members and their families. Activities included K-9 demonstrations, emergency vehicle and transportation bus displays, child safety resources, crime prevention information, live music, food, prizes and other family-friendly activities.

In some communities, DAPO staff visited neighborhood block parties to connect directly with families in a welcoming and positive setting.

Throughout the evening, DAPO staff distributed stickers, school supplies, flashlights and other giveaways while speaking with residents about the division’s important work. Community members often thanked DAPO staff and other law enforcement professionals for their service.

National Night Out provided another valuable opportunity for DAPO to remain visible and engaged in the communities we serve. These positive interactions help foster trust and strengthen partnerships. It also highlights DAPO’s commitment to public safety, rehabilitation, successful reintegration and safer, stronger communities throughout California.

The events were well received and brought law enforcement, community partners and residents together. This enjoyable and educational evening strengthens the relationships essential to keeping our communities safe.
