The Correctional Training Facility (CTF) at Soledad recently hosted its Summer Art Show at Facility C. The July 21-22 event brought together staff and incarcerated individuals to celebrate art and creativity.
The show displayed a wide range of artwork including paintings and sculptures all created by the incarcerated population. The show’s theme, “Transformative,” was reflected in many pieces. Alongside the visual arts, attendees also enjoyed live poetry and spoken word performances.
Organized by a team of incarcerated individuals and staff, the event blended security with a sense of normalcy and community. Staff members voluntarily attended with permission from their supervisors. Staff also participated in activities like selecting the best artworks or purchasing art pieces. All money raised from art sales was donated to the Mary Chapa Academy in Greenfield. The art school serves students from kindergarten through sixth grade.
