California Men’s Colony hosts family day

California Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo offered a family day for staff. The July 31 Rock the Block Party included music, food, informational booths, and demonstrations.

Watch the video by Ashton Harris, information officer with the CDCR Office of Public and Employee Communications. Story continues below.

Staff were encouraged to invite their families for guided tours of California Men’s Colony East Facility, a bounce house, ax throwing, and demonstrations by the institution’s fire house using real fire hoses for families to put out fake flames.

The prison’s Crisis Response Team offered a night vision display. Dogs were a hit as families enjoyed exhibitions by New Life K-9s and the Investigative Services Unit. There were also various games and contests, a barbecue, popcorn and snow cones.

“This amazing event provided good family fun for everyone,” said organizers. “Thank you to everyone who helped make it possible.”
