California State Prison (CSP), Corcoran, employees awarded three scholarships to graduating high school students.
The Corcoran Employee Activity Committee offered scholarships to any staff-nominated 2024 high school graduating students.
Applicants were required to submit an essay answering a few questions as well as taking into consideration their extracurricular activities such as sports, volunteering, clubs, and personal awards or achievements. They also needed to have a 3.0 grade-point average.
In all, 21 applications were submitted and three were selected to receive scholarships.
Winners boasted accomplishments ranging from a grade point average of 4.33, numerous volunteer activities, as well as sports and school club activities.
The winners and the nominating employees gathered Aug. 9 with Warden T.L. Campbell and other staff. They shared stories, advice, laughter, and congratulations for the recipients and their guests.
This year, the committee awarded the $3,000 divided among three scholarships: $1,500 for first, $1,000 for second, and $500 for third.
The Employee Action Committee looks forward to funding and selecting future winners of the Corcoran scholarship program.
