Peace officer recruitment at California fairs

Recruitment efforts aim to showcase the rewarding career opportunities within the state’s correctional system.

CDCR’s Peace Officer Recruitment Unit (PORU) has been actively engaging potential correctional officers this summer at fairs across California. These recruitment efforts showcase the rewarding career opportunities within the state’s correctional system.

The 2024 California State Fair, a 17-day event attracting over 600,000 attendees, served as a prime venue for recruitment. Positioned within the fairgrounds, the CDCR booth created an inviting space for discussions about careers in public safety. Representatives traveled from San Quentin Rehabilitation Center, Mule Creek State Prison, Solano State Prison, California State Prison Sacramento, and the Correctional Training Center. They were on hand to answer questions and provide detailed information about correctional officer positions.

To enhance the recruitment experience, peace officer recruitment collaborated with the Specialized Recruitment Unit and the Division of Adult Parole Operations (DAPO). They offered interactive games and displayed specialized gear, making the booth an engaging destination that sparked interest among attendees.

CDCR attends multiple fairs throughout state

The recruitment initiative extended beyond the state fair. Teams made significant appearances at the Mid-State Fair, Amador County Fair, and Del Norte County Fair. At the Mid-State Fair, representatives from Corcoran State Prison, Kern Valley State Prison, Central California Women’s Facility, Pleasant Valley State Prison, Correctional Training Facility, and California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility connected with potential candidates. Mule Creek State Prison participated at the Amador County Fair, while Pelican Bay State Prison represented the CDCR at the Del Norte County Fair in Crescent City.

With a strong focus on recruiting in Northern California, CDCR continues to seek dedicated individuals to join its ranks.
