Bill Glass Behind the Walls drew 90 volunteers to Avenal State Prison for the annual Day of Champions event Oct. 19.
The sun beamed down on the three complexes, setting the stage for a day brimming with excitement. The incarcerated population emerged from their buildings, drawn by the promise of a joyous occasion.
The Bill Glass crew arrived in style, heralded by the roar of motorcycles and gleam of a 1946 Chevy Fleetline.

The air buzzed with anticipation as performances took center stage. Reyna Reyna, a well-known radio show personality and singer, performed Selena cover songs.
Tully Blanchard, legendary World Wrestling Federation/World Wrestling Entertainment hall-of-fame inductee and member of the iconic Four Horsemen, shared words of wisdom and encouragement.
As the singers’ melodies and inspirational speeches faded into the air, the Bill Glass volunteers stepped forward, offering literature and prayers to the incarcerated.
According to Avenal attendees, the Day of Champions was imbued with compassion and understanding, nurturing a sense of hope and connection.
Through shared stories and empathy, the volunteers forged bonds with those behind bars, bridging divides and inspiring a collective journey toward redemption and renewal.
