SATF sees over 150 students graduate programs

Students receive degrees and diplomas at the SATF graduation.
SATF recognized 150 students graduating from various educational and vocational programs.

In September and October, the Substance Abuse Treatment Facility (SATF) held seven graduations to recognize 150 students.

Offering a ceremony for each facility, the SATF Tulare Lake Adult School recognized more than 150 students for a total of 185 achievements. These included 62 GEDs, 10 high school diplomas, 63 associate degrees, one bachelor’s degree, 47 vocational certifications or completions, and two certified literacy mentors.

The ceremonies were attended by classroom clerks and mentors, as well as custody and education staff. Also attending were administrators from the Office of Correctional Education (OCE). The most significant guests, however, were the graduates’ family members and friends.

Dozens of guests were able to partake in the ceremonies, joining in the celebration and providing continued support to their loved ones.

Band members from the facilities played music prior to the ceremonies and during the receptions, which added to the overall excitement. Additionally, several incarcerated persons had the opportunity to let their voices shine as they sang the National Anthem to start the ceremonies.

Graduates shared stories of their personal journeys, relatable to other graduates. These speeches provided encouragement and inspiration for other students to continue striving for their goals. Acting Warden Raul Morales encouraged the students to keep pushing forward with their education, celebrating this rehabilitation accomplishment milestone.

Mark Smith, SATF’s principal, shared a quote by Walt Disney.

“All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them,” he said. “Today, you all have shown you have that courage.”
