Avenal State Prison celebrates 61 graduates

Avenal State Prison’s Golden Hills Adult School recognized 61 graduates who earned diplomas, college degrees and certifications.

The Oct. 3 graduation recognized incarcerated individuals for their achievements.

The Avenal State Prison graduates earned:

  • 6 high school diplomas
  • 25 GEDs
  • 9 college graduates with two earning five associate degrees each and one earning four
  • 16 career technical education certificates
  • and 5 Youth Occupational Mentor program certificates

The ceremony unfolded with a mix of speeches, awards, and heartfelt moments. As the names of each graduate was announced followed by highlighting their accomplishments, their attending families beamed with pride.

The ceremony culminated with a reception with family and friends celebrating the graduates.
