Louis Baltazar, a retired correctional captain, passed away Dec. 8, 2024. He worked for the department for a little more than 30 years, retiring in 2009.

Baltazar, 68, was a US Army veteran.
After serving in the military, he decided to work for the state corrections department. He reported to California Institution for Men as a correctional officer in 1979. Baltazar went on to promote through the ranks at California Rehabilitation Center at Norco as well as the Division of Adult Institutions and Facilities Planning, Construction and Management.
Baltazar is survived by his wife Lisa, daughters Penny, Heather, son Joey and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
According to his family, he was a “patriot who loved this great country and the flag.”
He was also an avid athlete who loved running, kayaking, hiking, and playing softball. A passionate football fan, he was devoted to the Los Angeles Rams and USC Trojan football teams throughout his life. He also supported the Lakers and Angels teams.
Information regarding services was not immediately available but he will be laid to rest at the Riverside National Cemetery.
