South Korea’s Ministry of Justice, Correctional Services, visited three CDCR institutions in December. They toured the institutions to study the classification and accommodation systems used to manage incarcerated individuals, with a focus on security levels and the parole process.
The delegation from South Korea’s Ministry of Justice toured California State Prison-Solano, California Medical Facility, and Mule Creek State Prison.
Each visit included a Q&A session, institution tour, and program review. Solano provided lunch for the group, prepared by the incarcerated cooks at Delancey Street, trying quesadillas for the first time.
The visit aimed to inform South Korea’s evolving correctional strategies and foster international collaboration on best practices. Officials from both countries exchanged ideas on classification, security, and parole decision-making, emphasizing the importance of global cooperation in improving correctional systems.
