The 21-member CDCR staff strike team has been at the Palisades fire searching door-to-door for people needing help.
(Meet the CDCR fire strike team in this previously published story.)
“Right now, all we’re doing is basically going from house to house, knocking on doors, looking for any residents (still) inside here,” said Fire Capt. Justin Deaton, with Mule Creek State Prison. “(We’re) making sure they (have) food and water or any needs we can facilitate.”
While making sure people are safe, the strike team is also looking for fire spread.
“Along with that, we’re checking for any type of extension of the fire or any still remaining hot spots,” he explained. “Priority is the structures and then the remaining buildings that have burned down.”
