David Hernandez, a retired correctional officer from Centinela State Prison, passed away Feb. 17, 2025.

He began his career with the department as a cadet at the Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Center in April 1996.
After graduating the Basic Correctional Officer Academy, Hernandez reported to Centinela State Prison in late May 1996.
He worked at Centinela for 26 years, retiring in May 2022.
“Centinela State Prison extends our sincere condolences to David’s family and friends. He will be missed,” according to a statement issued by the institution.
