CDCR to launch enhanced Upward Mobility Program

CDCR is announcing the launch of the new and enhanced Upward Mobility Program (UMP). This innovative program will now be offered in a cohort style, allowing participants to benefit from a collaborative and supportive learning environment.

What is Upward Mobility?

Upward Mobility is the development and advancement of employees from positions in entry-level occupations to technical, professional, and administrative positions. Employees in entry-level occupations do not necessarily have the lowest salaries but are in occupations that have traditionally been in a limited capacity, where career advancement opportunities may not be clearly defined.

What’s different about the new program?

The UMP will be administered in a defined-length, cohort-style learning model. Participants can expect a comprehensive program and access to various resources to facilitate their professional growth and development. The cohort program involves a group of participants progressing through the curriculum together, fostering a sense of community and collaboration while they share experiences, support each other, and learn collectively.

The enhanced program features an exciting new curriculum designed to equip participants with the necessary skills to prepare their application packages for future job prospects. Additionally, a mock application package has been created for participants to practice and refine the skills and knowledge they gain during the training sessions.

In addition, 62 new classifications have been added to make the program more comprehensive and inclusive. This means more staff will have the opportunity to advance their careers and achieve their professional goals. For information on eligibility requirements, visit the UMP SharePoint site.

When do we launch and how do I join?

The new program will be launching soon, so keep an eye out for additional enrollment information. Anyone interested in advancing their careers can find additional resources on the CDCR Upward Mobility website.
