Warriors basketball plays CSP‑Solano Wolverines

Warriors coaching academy and team played a game at Solano prison against the Level II All-Star Wolverines.

In late February, the Warriors Basketball Coaching Academy, along with their recreational team, visited California State Prison (CSP) Solano, for an exhibition game.

The event was held Feb. 22, pitting the Warriors recreational team against the Solano Level II All-Star Wolverines.

The Warriors team were greeted warmly by the Solano team and spectators. Atmosphere before the game was festive with music provided by a live band that brought a lot of excitement to the gym.

After the national anthem was sung the game began. The game was off to a slow start, and defense dominated the first quarter. By the end of the first quarter, the Warriors led 16-11.

The second quarter saw the Wolverines made an adjustment to their gameplay and were only behind by 3 points, 29-26, at halftime.

During the halftime show, a participant from the first Twinning Project cohort, performed a song he dedicated to the Warriors academy.

The Warriors started the second half with smothering defense, making it tough for the Wolverines to score. Dez, John, and Tone made bucket after bucket. Before the Wolverines could recover, they were down 49-32 at the end of the third quarter.

The Wolverines made a comeback in the fourth quarter scoring 22 points, but it was too little and too late. In the end, the Warriors won the game 66-54.

After the game, the players shook hands and mingled, swapped stories and talked about everything from game moments to rehabilitation. Staff, visitors, and incarcerated individuals said they enjoyed a day full of laughter, basketball, sportsmanship, and rehabilitative fun.
