Diana McVay‑Bosell, retired correctional counselor

Diana McVay-Boswell, a retired correctional counselor, passed away June 20, 2025.

McVay-Boswell began her career with the department in 1989 as an office technician at California State Prison, Corcoran.

After working for a few other agencies, she then decided to return to the department, this time as a cadet at the Basic Correctional Officer Academy in 1996.

An injury sidelined her training, so she returned to her previous position with another agency. Despite this setback, she didn’t quit on her career goal. After healing from her injury, she returned to the academy, graduating in late 1998. She reported to Valley State Prison as a correctional officer.

“She consistently demonstrated exemplary professionalism, integrity, and compassion, positively impacting everyone she encountered,” according to the institution.

In July 2006, she promoted to correctional counselor where she remained until retiring in December 2010.

“As we grieve the loss of our respected colleague and friend, we ask all staff to join us in keeping McVay-Boswell’s family, friends, and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this profoundly difficult time,” according to Valley State Prison. “We are grateful for McVay-Boswell’s years of dedicated service and for the profound legacy of integrity, friendship, and compassion she leaves behind.”
