FCRP‑San Diego crochets baby blankets

Children at the Community Participant Mother Program received a donation of baby blankets crocheted by the Female Community Reentry Program (FCRP) in San Diego.

Two participants in the Female Community Reentry Program (FCRP) decided they wanted to help incarcerated mothers by crocheting baby blankets.

Taking on the project at the FCRP-San Diego, the participants set about using their creativity to benefit the Community Participant Mother Program (CPMP) at Santa Fe Springs.

After they finished their task, the FCRP took the two crocheters to Santa Fe Springs to drop off the baby blankets they made for the young children and expecting mothers. The yarn was donated by the Westcare Foundation, resulting in 10 baby blankets.

“These blankets weren’t just handmade. They were made with love, care, and a deep sense of purpose. The FCRP-San Diego hosts a thriving, participant-led crochet club where over 20 individuals teach and learn from one another. Together, they are building skills and community,” said FCRP officials.

Each blanket was individually wrapped and personally delivered by Correctional Counselor III N. Diaz-Acosta and Westcare Program Director Randi Ruble.

“This gesture brought warmth and comfort to the children while also symbolizing the power of second chances. This also highlights the importance of giving back,” said officials. “For the FCRP-San Diego participants, this project was more than just crocheting. They are sharing a life skill, spreading kindness, and making a difference, one stitch at a time.”
